Edisto Pines History

From Swinging a 9-Iron to Raising Cattle

Edisto Pines is a family operation and a dream come true for owners Todd and Kerri Edwards. The husband and wife team grew up in Asheville, NC, and relocated to South Carolina in the early 90s. After years of running a successful construction company, the two decided to embark on a new adventure.

In 2010, after the land that the farm is currently on fell victim to the economic downturn, Todd and Kerri purchased the 535-acre golf course with the intention of restoring the land as a means to provide for their family, support the local community and provide a true Southern venue for outdoorsmen to enjoy bird hunting, fishing and golfing. Cooper’s Creek Golf Course quickly became more than just a golf course.

The Edwards transformed the grounds into an outdoor retreat complete with cabins and campsites. For the next several years, family members, friends and strangers who quickly turned into friends enjoyed annual quail and pheasant hunts, fishing in abundant ponds and playing rounds of golf on the nine-hole golf course. Sportsmen from all over enjoyed a place to relax and the great outdoors thanks to Todd and Kerri’s commitment to revitalizing the land.

In 2013, Todd started to see the land as something more. While the golfing was fun, the land had the potential to serve a much bigger purpose. With his years of construction experience, Todd began to transform much of the land into a cattle farm with the desire to house livestock, but not just any livestock. He wanted the best of the best and decided to start an Angus cattle farm. He knew this wasn’t going to be just a hobby, but it would change his life

From that point forward, Edisto Pines would provide not only for his family but the local community and businesses and families across the country. As a strong Christian man, Todd knew if he sowed sparingly the farm would reap bountifully. They purchased additional land from surrounding areas and cleared more than 800 additional acres to provide adequate pastures for the cattle. They also hired experienced herdsmen to help with the cattle.

Todd and Kerri wanted to build a program with the best genetics available. They invested in select females with strong genetic profiles and maternal traits that would be adaptable for all regions of the United States. In addition to the females, Edisto Pines also welcomed several leading bulls, allowing the farm to quickly grow into one of the most recognizable cattle farms in the Southeast.

While Todd and Kerri have certainly enjoyed watching their dream become a reality and seeing the farm grow, they are constantly on the lookout for new and innovative ways to build their program. Edisto Pines is a labor of love for their family and with every production sale, they recommit the farm and their family to being faithful stewards of the community.
